Nick was the best storyteller! He was also the best teaser and critic of my leaf raking skills. He would leave notes on my front door reprimanding me of various infractions; leaves in the street and not on the curb, debris other than leaves in the pile…..on and on his complaints would go. He would challenge me to join him on the leaf crew to “see how it was done!” Well, one frosty fall morning I accepted his challenge. With the help of my husband, Nick’s boss, I showed up and showed him I knew how it was done! He was surprised, I was sore and our mutual respect and friendship lasted forever.

One more memory popped into my head. As the obituary stated, Nick liked being outside and he loved the cold. I love warm. In the truck one time he had his window down a little and I was freezing. He said, "Hey Bert, you want me to turn on the heater?" I nodded yes, so he turned on the heater and rolled his window completely down! :)
That was Nick!

There are so many wonderful things I can say about Nick. So many stories about his wit that kept you on your toes. We talked about the differences of our religions for 2 years and never once had an argument. We'd pick a topic for the night to look up and talk about our findings the next day. We worked on Rt. 8 and he made sure I knew how many ramps there were so when I plowed for snow. We had a pothole patching machine called the Rosco. Boy, did he love using that machine. It truly was a good day when you worked with Nick! Leaf Season. Front Street. Oh my goodness!! What a goofball!!!! :)
We kept in touch after retirement and he truly was one of a kind, and I mean truly!
I love Nick and it breaks my heart that he is gone. God bless you Dorothy, Paul, David and Sarah. God bless the sweet grandchild. Love to everyone who loved Nick, Bert.
