Ralph W. Backus Jr., 85, passed away January 23, 2023. He was born on May 25, 1937 in Akron, Ohio to the late Ralph Sr. and Hazel Backus. Ralph enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting and fishing. Ralph was a talented wood crafter. In his younger years Ralph enjoyed bowling and would often receive a perfect 300 score. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1958. Ralph was a past commander, V.F.W. post 3294 member, color guardsman, life member of V.F.W. post 4738 in Stow, Ohio, American Legion post 281 member, honor guardsman, and officer of the 14th district of Ohio.
In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by his loving wife, Deborah L. Backus.
Left to cherish his memory are his three sons, Rory Backus, Jason Backus, and Sean Backus; and many grandchildren.
There is no visitation or services per Ralph's final wishes.
Burial will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
