Ruth Mae Merriner, 86, went Home to be with the Lord on November 12, 2022 after a lengthy illness. Born in Akron, Ohio to Robert and Dorothy (Fry) Shew, she was a lifelong area resident. She enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adelines City of Flags Chorus, sewing, crafting, watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and Hallmark movies, working puzzles, posting her daily devotionals and spending time with her beloved family.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, James Merriner, Sr; sons, Dion, Michael; siblings, Jim Shew, Vaughn Sims; best friend, Marie Zdila. She will be sadly missed by her children, Jim (Pam) Merriner, Kimberly (Eddie) Wyatt; grandchildren, Eddie, Jenna (Stephen), Jimmy, Matt (Kalyn); great grandchildren, Kaylin, Ellie, Sophie, Teddy; siblings, Harold (Marion)McElwee, Owen Shew, Alfred (Sue) Shew, Helen Headley; her loving cat, Meesha; many nieces, nephews and relatives.

Ruth's family would like to thank the staff of Summa Hospice, her neighbor Nancy and especially her sister-in-law Pat (a God sent) for their loving care of Ruth.

Family and friends are invited to visit Tuesday, November 22, 2022 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd. A Celebration of Ruth's Life will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Hillside Memorial Park. Those who wish may make memorial donations in Ruth's name to the charity of their choice.
