Helen lived her whole life in the Akron area and was a devout woman of faith. Helen was baptized in 1956 by Billy Graham and again at her home church, McNaughton Street Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities and taught children's Sunday school for 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents Pierce Wade and Hattie May (nee Butcher) Knight, her eldest son, Mark Sr and step-grandson, Gary; her nine siblings, Elizabeth, Florence, Patty, Rose, Nancy, Bud, Bob, Martin and Emma.
Helen is survived by her children, Barbara Shindledecker, Michael (Pam) Shindledecker and Tonia (Ned) Lawley; her daughter-in-law, Ila Shindledecker; her grandchildren, Mark (Lisa) Shindledecker Jr, Cash (Lisa) Lawley, CJ Lawley, Jacob Shindledecker and Tina Baldwin; her great-grandchildren, Ashley, Mark III, Taylor, Jenna, Lilah and Liam; and her great-great-granddaughter, Aryanna Rose.
Her sister, Garnet Story-age 98, also survives.
Helen built her career around serving the needs of Barb. She was instrumental in developing the Transportation Department for Weaver School and Workshop and retired as the Director of Transportation for Summit County MRDD in 1994.
Family and friends may visit at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, Ohio, on Thursday, December 2, 2021 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM.
The funeral service will be held at Community Baptist Temple, 1435 Kelly Avenue, Akron on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 11:00 AM with calling hours at the church from 10:00 - 11:00 AM.
She will be laid to rest at Hillside Memorial Park, Akron, Ohio.
