Dorothy J. Sweeney, 96, of Akron, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2021 surrounded by her family. Dorothy was married to her loving husband, Chuck, for 57 years and together they founded Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Since she was an only child, family and friends were very important to her. She enjoyed playing cards, jigsaw, crossword, and word find puzzles. She was also an amazing seamstress, who made many wedding and special occasion dresses for many of her “girls”. Many people called her grandma. She was a talented cook and baker, whose Christmas Cookie trays were enjoyed by so many.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. Sweeney Jr.; parents; and grandson, Lee Michael Boso.

Left to cherish Dorothy’s memory are her children, Cheryl (Chuck) Gunnells of Canfield, Cindy (Mike) Boso of Akron, and Chuck (Susan) Sweeney of Jackson; granddaughters, Michelle (Bill) Yobi, Katelynn Boso (Kurt), and Tami Gunnells; and great-grandchildren, William (Jenna), Joe Yobi, Cody and Austin Smith.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday September 22, 2021 from 4pm until 6pm at Newcomer 131 N. Canton Rd, Akron. A funeral service will take place on Thursday September 23, 2021 at 11:30am at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church 2254 Triplett Blvd, Akron, OH 44312. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.
