1949 - 2021

Charles Dennis "Charlie" Hiner, age 71 of Springfield Township passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 10, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. A lifelong resident of Akron, Charlie was born on June 12, 1949, the son of the late Charles E. and Sylvia {Mills} Hiner.

Charlie's memory will always be cherished by his loving wife of 50 years, Pam; sons Charlie (Kelly), Andy (Suzanne) and Aaron Hiner; daughter Michelle (Jay) Woods; grandchildren Taylor, Brooke, Brice, Nathan, Andrew, Adeline, Austin and Leigha; great-grandson Oliver; siblings Eddie Joe (Diane), Jerry and Janice Hiner; many nieces and nephews.

Charlie was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, retiring from the National Guard after his honorable discharge from service in the 69th Engineering Division during the Vietnam War. He served with the Mogadore Fire Department as a Volunteer Firefighter, for nearly two decades. In his free time, Charlie enjoyed fishing, riding his motorcycle, and watching his grandkids play sports.

Friends and family are welcome to visit on Friday, May 14 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Akron, from 5:00 p.m. until the start of the 7:00 p.m., limited seating service.
