Shirley A. House (nee McClain), age 81, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2021, daughter of the late Alice and William McClain, she was born on February 26, 1940 in Martins Ferry, Ohio.

Shirley was a graduate of KSU High School, class of 1958. She worked kindly as a bus driver for some years before operating as a homemaker and “bookkeeper” for the family business with her husband, son and the many who lovingly referred to her as Big Red. Shirley was a lover of gardening and all beauty that nature offered. She was a member of her local gardening club in early years and was always one to share her endless knowledge of flowers and planting.

In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James A. House; and brothers, Lawrence, Kenneth, and Richard McClain.

Shirley is survived by her son, Shannon C. House of Randolph, Ohio; her granddaughter, Mikhayla M. (Jonathan) Sadlowski of Malden Bridge, New York; and great-grandsons, Giovanni and Francesco Sadlowsk;i and several adored nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Shirley was a wonderful wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother. She loved her family and friends unconditionally and will be greatly missed by all who had the joy of knowing her.

Per Shirley’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and all arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Newcomer Funeral Home, Akron.
