In Memory Of
Debra D. "Mama Bear" Poling-Jewell
1959 - 2021
Debra was born in Akron on August 15, 1959, and raised her four children in Green, Ohio.
Debra was a graduate of Hoban High School and attended the University of Akron. Debra spent over 20 years as a manager at Central States Management before working the last 10 years as the General Manager of JP’s Pub in Akron.
Debra was passionate about her love for Christ. She spoke of it with pride and used her position at work to witness and pray with broken and hurting people. Debra’s kindness had no end. She loved everyone before she knew them. She was a friend to strangers. She believed in the Golden Rule and practiced it. Her nickname, “Mama Bear”, is a testament to the love and care she gave anyone who was lucky enough to cross her path.
She is survived by her mother, Page (Chip) Silverthorne; her brother, Daniel (Bonnie) Jewell; her children, Amy (Brian), Benjamin (Briana), Jonathan (Jessi) and Janie (Alex); her niece and nephew, Megan and Dylan; her grandchildren, Monica, Frank, Hadley, Ilyana, Bristol, Jonathan Jr., Madalyn and Nico; and Debra’s special friend, Pat McBee.
Memorial calling hours will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2021 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron.
