Phyllis R. York, 82, passed away February 15th, 2021 due to the Covid-19 virus. Born in Portsmouth, Ohio to Charles and Marie (Rose) Cockrell, she resided in the Akron and Cuyahoga Falls areas most of her adult life. She was a homemaker and worked as a nurse aide at Little Forest Medical Center and later in a home care environment. She greatly enjoyed supporting church missions, picnics in the park, feeding the birds, and spending time with her family.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, and children, Christine Melton and David Stokes: siblings Catherine Cockrell, Charlotte Paul, Roger Cockrell, and Robert Cockrell. She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Pamela Merrow, Vickie (Ron) O’Farrell; grandchildren, Rachel Stokes, Danielle (Bryan) Perella-Dutton, Joseph (Michelle) Sinor, John (Shelby) O’Farrell, Tessie Cross; great grandchildren, Dean (Samantha) Perella Jr., Chastity Stokes, Santino Perella, Brenden Bly, Gadge Childs, Joseph Perella, Christian and Jon Payne, Emmilya and Ethan Sinor, Bella, Michael, and Siena Dutton, Tony Cross; great great grandchildren, Arabella, Riley, Vanessa, and Vincent; many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to visit Tuesday, February 23rd, 2021 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd. The funeral service will take place Wednesday, February 24th at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Due to Covid-19 concerns please expect to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines.
