He was born on July 8, 1928 in Springfield, Ohio, the son of the late Archie and Margaret (nee Maxwell) Woodring.
He was a sergeant in the US Marine Corp. and received a Purple Heart during combat in the Korean War.
Other than his parents, Max was preceded in death by his first wife, Suzanne Woodring; his siblings, Jean and James Woodring; his step-sons, David and Steven Richardson; his sister-in-law, Alberta Butz; and his special friends, Steve and Judi Lambert.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 42 years, the former Jean Voelker, whom he married on December 29, 1978; his daughter, Tamara Woodring; his step-children, Theresa (Jeff) Weakland, Bob Richardson, Bill (Deborah) Richardson and Timothy Richardson; his daughter-in-law, Deborah Richardson; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
His brother-in-law also survives, Walter Butz; along with his special friends, Evelyn and Sheldon Shepherd, Stephanie and Kevin Thomas, and Steven Lambert Jr.
Per his wishes, there will not be any calling hours and a graveside memorial service will be held at a later date at Hillside Memorial Park, Akron.
All arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Newcomer Funeral Home, Akron.
