Miner Ellery Bonner was born on April 20th, 1934. On October 25th, Ellery unexpectedly joined the love of his life, Lena, of 67 years, who he sadly lost earlier this year, and his oldest son Jim. Whether you knew him as Ellery, Eddy, G-Pa or Nitehawk212...you loved him. So much can be said about the man we loved and the legacy he leaves behind.

Ellery was born in West Virginia and even though he lived most of his life in Ohio, he oozed West Virginia. From the way he pronounced "battery" as "battry," to the camouflage and duct tape that he always had a surplus of. Known by almost everyone as the resourceful man that never stopped tinkering and working, but also as the man that would help anyone if they needed it. In this instance, wisdom wore suspenders, and he wore them well. Ellery also loved to do anything in nature, his entire life. Whether it was hunting, fishing, camping or just sitting outside with family enjoying a beer with good conversation...he loved to be outside.

Ellery lived his adult life in Mogadore, Ohio. He retired from Summit Grinding, and also retired from the United States Postal Service. After that, he seemed to just have more time for more work. He spent years building his home away from home in Carrollton, where he spent all of his fair weather months. All the while, continuing to be a pillar in his family that he was.

As Ellery got older, his family joked that winter was slowing him down because he couldn't camp, fish or hunt as much. During these months when he was pretending he couldn't hear his wife playfully yelling at him from the other room, he was trying to find ways to keep his hands busy and his mind sharp...which led him to have his grandsons set him up with video games. This gave way to the legendary Nitehawk. The Call of Duty playing grandpa that played online video games in his 70's and 80's to keep his reflexes honed for the warmer weather months. Long gaming nights, an endless amount of trash talk and a lot of laughter created treasured memories and built probably the best 86 year old gamer you would have ever crossed paths with.

Rest in Peace, G-Pa...we won't make you go "pop the trunk" anymore...

Ellery is survived by his siblings Kenny (Della) Bonner, Twila (Bob) Harris, Phil (Charlotte) Bonner and Dennis (Jeanette) Bonner. His daughters Barb (Buddy) Morgan and Sue {Bonner} Jones, along with his son David (Denise) Bonner. His legacy will forever live on with them and his large extended family that loved him.

At this time, we will ask friends and family to join us on November 14th for an open house celebration of life from 1-4 pm at the Mogadore Moose to celebrate the lives of Ellery and Lena Bonner. To tell stories, relive memories and share the love we had for them both, as they are finally together again. To leave a message for Ellery's family, please scroll below.
