Gary Anthony Galati, 70, passed away at home, January 18, after a brief, courageous battle with Leukemia.

Gary was a lifetime resident of Akron, graduated from Akron North High School and attended the University of Akron and served with the United States Navy for four years. He served as an Firefighter with the Akron Fire Department for 25 years earning the rank of Lieutenant.

Gary started bowling as a teen-ager and was well known in bowling circles. He worked at Sto-Kent lanes where he met his wife, Wilma. He had a love of bowling and bowled 4-6 times a week, he also rolled several 300 games. He bowled his last game just months before dying.

Gary was a devoted husband and father. He leaves his wife of 46 ½ years, Wilma; and three children Patrick and fiance Julie, Stephen and wife Tracy, and Angelina Manning and fiance Bill; and grandchildren, Makenzie Galati and fiance Melanie, Logan Galati and wife Jennifer, and Tony Manning, and many others treated like grandchildren.

He also leaves his sister, Dorothy Markulis and husband Joe, brother Jeffrey Galati and wife Mary Ellen, brother-in-law Ken Peel and best friend, Larry Whytsel; and many devoted nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Stephanie Galati Dohner Peel.

Gary never met a stranger and was known to all as a really nice guy. He never went anywhere without seeing someone he knew. He was always ready to help if you needed it.

Gary attended and supported the North Point Apostolic Church in Stow.

Those who wish may make memorial donations in Gary's name to Akron Firefighters Retirees, for the Salvation Army.
