Harold met his future wife, Pauline, on a blind date. After going into the service, they were married on Feb. 13, 1943 in DeRidder, LA.
Harold is a lifetime member of the Mogadore Moose club where he and Pauline spent many Saturday evenings dancing with friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Janet Faye; 1 brother; 3 sisters; 2 half-brothers; 2 half-sisters and their spouses; step-mother, Mildred; and son-in-law, Tony Leacoma. He is survived by his loving wife of 76 years, Pauline; 3 daughters, Lynette Leacoma, Janice (Jim) Herndon, Judy (Clyde) Smith; half-sister, Brenda Sue (Don) Skavinsky; 6 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Family and friends are welcome during calling hours from 11am-1pm on Saturday, February 23 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, with funeral service at 1pm. Pastor Kim Lawrence officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Harold's memory to the Cleveland V.A. Medical Center, General Post Fund #1002, 10701 E. Blvd., Cleveland, OH 44106 (attn: Voluntary Services), or to the Southern Care Hospice Group at 1871 Bailey Rd., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223. Harold's ashes will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jeffrey Bachtel for Harold's medical care for over 25 years. They also want to thank the Veterans Association, especially Kyley, for their care and support these past few years and most recently, the Southern Care Hospice, especially Sara, Stacy and Jennifer.
