Billie Roy Self, 90, of Akron, passed away on December 30, 2018 in Lake Wales, Florida. Billie was born on April 27, 1928 in Rome, Georgia to the late Joseph and Sallie Self. He belonged to the Local 18 Operating Engineers since 1950 and was a longtime member of Millheim Baptist Church. After retirement, he spent over 25 years wintering at Camp Inn Resort in Frostproof, Florida. His favorite times were spent on the water, fishing on his air boat. In addition to his parents, Billie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris. He will be dearly missed by his children, Steve A. (June) Self, Janice E. (Vaughn "Popeye") Easterling, and Margaret L. (Lee) Dillworth; siblings, Lousie Mills and Charles Self of Rome, GA; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Family and friends may call on Thursday, January 10, 2019 from 5-7 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Millheim Baptist Church, 2683 Hayne Rd., Akron. Family and friends may visit at the church from noon until the time of the service. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.
