Regina “Jeannie” G. Adkins-Zink
Regina Adkins-Zink, 66, passed away peacefully under anesthesia during surgery on Jan 4, 2019.
Jeannie was born in Cabell County, West Virginia on March 29, 1952 to Otis Ray Adkins and Helen F Osburn, and grew up in Akron. She graduated from East Akron High School and The University of Akron.
She worked as a Portage and Summit County Deputy Sheriff until she retired in the early 1990s. After retiring from police work, she continued to be an inspiration, friend, and mother.
In addition to her father Otis Adkins, Jeannie was preceded in death by her brothers Russell and Keith Adkins.
She is survived by her mother, Helen F. Adkins (Osburn); brothers Harold and Danny Adkins; husband of 23 years, Richard Zink; her son, Steven Scott Atkinson; daughters, Angela (Ansel) and Heather (Colegrove); 5 grandchildren: Jenna, Owen, Carter, Parker, and Harrison; and many nieces and nephews.
She will always be remembered for her love of gambling and camping (especially at Ohio Power). She loved yard sales, thrift shops, and always finding the perfect deal for her newest project. She had a keen eye for designing on a dime...always with a sassy attitude.
Her zest for life, opinion and fact that no weeds grew under her feet puts us at peace. In her own words “We are putting on those big girl pants and there are no weeds growing here”, Mom! God speed and rest as we do what you taught us best!
Since Jeannie was not fond of funerals, she wished to be cremated and laid to rest near her father at the East Akron Cemetery. Please, do not send contributions or flowers. To keep her wishes, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
