Linda Hillegass Flanagan

On Wednesday, August 29, 2018, Linda (Hillegass) Flanagan, 70, earned her wings after a long and valiant battle with cancer.

Linda was born on August 13, 1948 in Akron, Ohio to Karl and Mildred Peacock, both of whom preceded her in death. On July 21, 2001 she married Tom Flanagan who preceded her in death in 2016.
Linda graduated from Stow High School in 1966 and had a long career with the Goodyear Chemical Division, retiring in 2003. Linda was active in the Goodyear and Weathervane Theatres and had lead singing roles in, among other productions, Oklahoma, My Fair Lady, The King and I and the Sound of Music. Linda participated as “Queen” and sang at the Stan Hywet Hall Madrigal Feast as well as in a number of church choirs as a featured soloist and was an active member of The Vine Church in Copley, Ohio. She participated in summer stock theatre in Pittsburg, PA as well as various supper clubs in Canton and Twinsburg, Ohio. Linda also produced a CD titled, “Sentimental Journey,” with Pat Flynn and was a member of the Gold Star Therapy Dog Program. Linda also enjoyed RVing, gardening, sewing and crocheting.

Linda is survived by her brother Karl Peacock (Yan), her nephew Ryan Peacock (Darcie) and their children Mollie, Kipton, and Bryson; her nephew Jared Peacock (Claire) and cousins Bob Huntley (Nancy), Ron Huntley (Pat) and Susan Huntley-Butler (Larry) along with brothers in law Steve Flanagan (Pat) and Daniel Flanagan (Anne) as well as her stepchildren Maureen Vadis (Michael), Laura Flanagan (Wayne Carpenter) and John Flanagan, four grandchildren Lauren Flanagan, Ryan Flanagan, Adam Carpenter, Anne Carpenter. She is also survived by her inconsolable faithful and furry companion, Duchess.
Linda will always be remembered by her contagious laughter, beautiful infectious smile, willingness to help others and fun.

Friends may call on Friday, September 28 from 5 – 8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron where a memorial service will take place on Saturday, September 29 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Tom Ulrich officiating followed by a procession to Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions can be made to Humane Society of Summit County or Hospice of the Western Reserve.
