Rubie Christine Gibson, "Rushie", age 91 of Uniontown, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 10, 2018 at Pebble Creek Rehabilitation Center in Akron, Ohio.

Rubie was born on May 18, 1927 in Humphrey's County, TN, to the late Oscar Earl and Rosa Mae (nee Harrison) Smith, Sr. Rubie was the beloved sister to 17 siblings, 14 of whom are deceased, and the loving mother of Karen (Tom) Surgen and adoring grandmother to Kyle and Kourtney, whom survive.

Rushie moved to Akron in 1943 and worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and retired with 42 1/2 years of service.

In addition to her daughter and grandchildren, other survivors include her three siblings, Ethel Oneida Hazel, Betty (Cleveland) Worley, and Darce Smith; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Rubie attended the Tallmadge Church of Christ; and she enjoyed working in her beautiful flower beds, quilting, and spending time with her devoted family.

Family and friends may visit at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron from 1:00 - 3:00 PM, on Sunday, September 16, 2018.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, September 17, 2018 at 11:00 AM, where Lewis Willis will celebrate Rubie's life.

Rubie will be laid to rest at Hillside Memorial Park, Akron.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association.
