He was born at home (where the family had a farm and apple orchard) on July 1, 1935 in Quincy, Michigan, the son of the late William and Mary (nee Hammond) Knirk.
Carl was an honorably discharged US Army veteran in the Army Audit Division.
Mr. Knirk was an accountant for Roadway Express and Butcher and Singer, as well as, the finance director for The Chapel.
Carl and his wife enjoyed being involved with missionaries all over the world, as well as, encouraged others to be involved in missions. Carl loved Cleveland indoor soccer, feeding birds and working puzzles with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his loving wife, the former Evelyn B. Linderman, whom he married on August 31, 1968; his children, Lisa (Scott) Hopkins, Carlene (Bill) Marchand, and David (Dana Craig) Knirk; his grandchildren, Faith, Abbey Rose, Caleb, Caroline, and Sydney.
Other than his parents, Carl was preceded in death by three siblings.
Family and friends may visit from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at the funeral home at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to South Street Ministries, 130 West South Street, Akron, Ohio, 44311, in Carl's memory.
The family wishes to thank Summa Hospice for their compassion and care.
