John K. Sparling, age 60 of Uniontown, Ohio, died at the Hospice Care Center on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 5:25 AM.

He was born in Cleveland on January 25, 1958, the son of the late Kenneth and Mary Jean (nee Hall) Sparling.

John was a 1976 graduate of Maple Hgts High School and was an honorably discharged US Navy veteran.

Mr. Sparling retired in 2013 after 33 years of service. He worked out of the Boilermakers Union Hall Local #744 in Cleveland, Ohio. His second career, he went on and worked for the Akron Public School System as a custodian at Ritzman CLC. He was an avid Cleveland Sports fan, this was a huge part of his life; he also loved the Ohio State Buckeyes. John loved riding his bicycle on the Tow Path, working out, and watching movies. He was PaPa John to all the kids.

Survivors include his loving wife, the former Donna Davis, whom he married on July 11, 2007; his sister, Linda Sparling; his best friend/son, Adam (Shannon) Huntsman; and two nieces, Jennifer (Dustin) Monroe and Amy (Bryan) Rouse; one great-niece, Alonna Monroe; and Adam's daughter, Jayden Huntsman. Also surviving is Donna's family, her parents, Don and Janet Davis; her sisters, Sandy Davis and Debbie (Dave) Velickoff; her nieces and nephews, Christine Baggett, Ed (Courtney) Velickoff, David (Holly) Velickoff, and Matthew (Alanna) Velickoff and her nine special great-nieces and great-nephews, everyone has been extremely supportive and helpful.

Other than his parents, John was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Andrea Hamer.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, where Chaplain Chad Durfee will celebrate John's life.

Family and friends may visit from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Saturday; THE FAMILY ASKS THAT WHEN YOU ATTEND PLEASE WEAR SOME TYPE OF CLEVELAND SPORTS APPAREL.

John will be laid to rest at Hillside Memorial Park, Akron.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron, Ohio 44333. The family wishes thank all of the caregivers for their superb attention to John.
