Emily Ann Horn, 22, of Akron (Ellet) died unexpectedly late afternoon on Friday, November 3, 2017 in Akron (Portage Lakes).

She was born May 22, 1995 in Akron to Ed and Jan Horn (Harden).

She was a Girl Scout, beginning as a Daisy in Kindergarten - 1st Grade to a Brownie 2nd - 3rd and finally a Girl Scout 4th - 5th.

She was active in Soccer “The Mighty Turtles” Kindergarten-8th grade; basketball with Ellet Youth Basketball 3rd - 8th; EHS Lady Orangeman 9th-11th grade; returning to Ellet Youth Basketball her senior year. Basketball was one of her greatest passions, both as a player and as a spectator. She was a cheerleader grades 3-12 (Captain her senior year).

Em attended Ellet schools. Betty Jane Elementary 5th grade graduation, perfect attendance. Hyre Middle School 8th grade graduation she received the Female Highest Academic Achievement Award and The Female Highest Athletic Achievement Award. She was a 2013 graduate of Ellet High School earning The Ohio State Board of Education Academic Award of Merit; Honor Roll Student, Junior Mentor, Cheer Captain, Freshman Homecoming Court. Senior year, although she did not win the nomination, she was honored to be voted in the top three for Homecoming Queen.

Emily earned her Bachelor’s Degree, Business Administration - Human Resources in May 2017 from Kent State University.

While attending High School, she was employed at Acme Fresh Market in Tallmadge. While attending KSU, she was employed as a server at Applebee’s. Her senior year at KSU, Em was employed as a Human Resources Assistant and Gift of the Day Coordinator at Crossroads Hospice of Northeast Ohio located in Green.

Em was currently working as a Corporate Recruiter in the Human Resources Department at OverDrive in Garfield Heights.

2017 was to be her year. Emily was excited about her new job (August 7) with OverDrive and her new Luxury Lake Erie View apartment (keys Nov 1 and move was to be Nov 4) that she was to share with her significant other, Barry Kaschner. Barry was what she held nearest and dearest to her heart over the past three years.

She loved the Cav’s, Indians and NYC. She enjoyed playing Rook. She was beautiful inside and out. Her Daddy’s girl and her Momma’s world since birth.

At birth Em had a single Dysplastic Nevus. She was ultimately diagnosed with Congenital Dysplastic Nevus Syndrome. Likewise, she was an advocate for Melanoma and Skin Cancer Prevention

She was preceded in death by her grandparents William “Red” Harden and Betty Harden of Ravenna. She is survived by her loving parents, Ed and Jan Horn (Harden), the one that held her heart, her love, Barry Kaschner, brother, Edward Horn of Cleveland, sister Michelle Horn of Cleveland, Aunt Vicki Kline, of Ravenna, Uncles Dave (Becky) Kline, of Ravenna, John (Beth) Kline of Suffield, 2 neices and 3 nephews of Cleveland, Cousins, Dan (Cindy) Kline, Lori Weisner and Lisa Vance, of Ravenna, Angie Farley of Texas, Dave Farley of Kent, Danielle Kline of Ravenna, Michael Kline of Suffield, Lacey Kline of Cuyahoga Falls, Hayley Hastings of Cuyahoga Falls, David Kline of Suffield, Hannah Kline of Suffield, Eric Keblesh, Tim Keblesh, Ashley Kline, Danny Kline, Dylan Kline, Amanda Kline, and several 2nd and 3rd cousins.

A special thank you for the love and support of the Ellet Community, Ellet High School for opening the school gymnasium on Sunday evening November 5 to host a vigil for Emily, Crossroads Hospice of Green for all of their love and support to her family during this time. They were there for Emily in a BIG WAY in life and in death. OverDrive for their love and support. To the many people who have posted so many wonderful things about Emily to Facebook and those that attended the Vigil at EHS and spoke so fondly of her. And to the many that donated to or commented on Emily's Go Fund Me account, making it possible for her parents to make her final arrangements all that they could be.

Visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Ellet on Friday November 10, 2017 from 5pm-8pm and Saturday November 11, 2017 at 10am. Funeral Service will be held at 11am. Private Interment.
