William Edmund Thompson of Tallmadge Ohio, shed his earthly
bonds on February 1, 2016.
Born in Philippi WV on December 19, 1924, he was the son of James Otis and Iris Goldie Daugherty-Thompson.
William left Philippi in 1945 to begin a 35 year career at The Firestone
Tire and Rubber Company, in Akron Ohio as a tire builder for passenger
and racing tires. In 1947 he married Norma Board of Belington WV.
In 1976 he began building a vacation home in Belington WV near his
mother and brothers. After retiring from Firestone he and Norma would
reside there for months at a time in the Summer and Fall.
He enjoyed his retirement, his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Predeceased by mother, father and four brothers, James Jr., Gerald, Hugh and Bob, he leaves to mourn: Daughter Carol Hollingsworth, sons Charles ( Joan )
and Thomas. Six grandchildren: Scott and Erica Hollingsworth,
Ryan ( Kirsten )and Erin (Scott)Lieter, Melissa ( Donald ) Scherer and
Melinda ( Richard ) Chappelear. Six great grandchildren Megan and
Sarah Thompson , Lillian and Elaina Scherer , Zoe and Liam Chappelear
and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives who loved him dearly. The
family appreciates all the prayers and kind words received during the
last two weeks.
