1936 - 2018

Monroe Evans, 81, passed peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on June 10, 2018. He was born June 17, 1936 in Montgomery County, AL to late parents, Jim and Ida Evans. Monroe retired from Kiehl's Construction after 45+ years of service. He lived a full life and enjoyed spending time with the family, traveling, and his favorite past-time was sitting on the swing in the breezeway. There was no strangers, everyone become a friend. He was always offering a helping hand with any project needing done. "Without pointing any fingers or elbows," he was known to tell a good story or joke.

In addition to his parents, Monroe was preceded in death by 7 siblings. He is survived by special friend, Kimberly Askew; children, Carl Thomas, Monroe Evans Jr., Walter Evans, Priscilla Evans, Winfred Evans, Mark Evans, Sherita Powell, Monte Evans, April Evans, Alexeus Evans; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; siblings, Gertrude Cunningham, Lucille Turner Hendricks, Leon (Gloria) Evans; and long-time special friend, Lowell Hawthorne.

Family will welcome guests for a visitation on Friday, June 22, 2018 from 11:00am to 12:00pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Funeral service will begin at 12:00pm. Interment at Lakewood Cemetery, 1080 W. Waterloo Rd., Akron, OH 44314, to follow. A repast will be held at the Marion T. Hall Community Center, 491 Vernon Odom Blvd., Akron, OH 44307. Donations for the repast will be accepted at 9:00am on Friday.
