William "Randy" Newell, 62, of Akron, passed away on January 4, 2018. He was born on April 18, 1955 in Ashland, Kentucky to the late Raymond and Mary Newell.
Will had a long career in aviation as a mechanic and aircraft inspector and also as a railroad engineer. He was part of the crew that designed and maintained the record-breaking Green Monster, a drag-racing vehicle driven by the late Art Arfons. More recently, he was involved with the Center for Automotive Research at OSU. In his free time, he enjoyed working on cars, coaching softball, and camping.
He will be deeply missed by his daughters, Ashley (Elliott) Woolf and Alisa Newell; sisters, Sandra (Jerry) Cash and Laura Newell; granddaughters, Avery Woolf and Alanna Woolf; many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. at Nativity of the Lord Jesus Christ Catholic Church, 2425 Myersville Rd., Akron, OH 44312, where a Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at www.pancan.org.
