In Memory Of
Betty Jane LaMont
1921 - 2017

Betty Jane LaMont passed away peacefully on Sept.8, 2017 at the age of 95. She was little in size, but her impact on the people in her life was huge! She was a hard worker, fiercely independent, incredibly creative and had sense of humor that kept us all laughing. She loved the water and birds and watching Reba and Channel 8 news. In her earlier years, she loved to sew and she made her daughters the most beautiful prom dresses without a pattern! In her earlier years she loved to spend her Saturday nights dancing at the Sons of Herman.

Betty worked at PlastiCast Mold, Firestone Tire and Rubber in the printing department and the Sons of Herman. After she retired she worked until she was 82 years old as a crossing guard at the corner of Cole and Grant St. for students at McEbright Elementary. She treated those children like they were her own! She collected hats and gloves and passed them out on cold days to children who needed them. The Akron Beacon Journal and McEbright School both honored her for her generosity and kindness to the children in Akron.

She is preceded in death by her siblings Elaine, Jack and Bud; sons Thomas LaMont Shaw and Paul H.Shaw, daughter Venetta Cook, and son in law John Dunn; grandchildren Becky Ann Laney, Dawn Marie Legg, Joshua Legg, Shane Legg and Tammy Bennett and great-great granddaughter Christionna Westfall. She leaves her daughters Merle Dunn, Sharon (Rick) Laney, Charlie Cook and Kathy (Raymond) Mull, 29 grandchildren, over 50 great grandchildren and numerous great-great and great-great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Barbara Bailey and her staff for their kindness and compassionate care of our mother. Special thanks to Jack and Tom for their love and kindness, Coventry EMS, Summit County Sheriff's Department for their professionalism and sensitivity and Stephaine Melton for going above and beyond. Thank you to all the family and friends who sat with her, sent food, prayed, supported and love our mother and us, especially during this last year. And most of all, thank you to her daughter Kathy and granddaughter Kathleen who were her primary caretakers during the last year of her life.

Cremation has taken place. At Betty's request, there will be no services. In her honor, please consider donating hats and gloves to McEbright Elementary School (or a school of your choice) in her name.
