Michael T. Lugenbeal, of Akron, died suddenly Monday, May 8, 2017, at his home. He was born October 9, 1960 in Ironton, OH, the son of Russell T. and Virginia Mount Lugenbeal. After moving to Wooster, he graduated from Wooster High School in 1979, and graduated from the University of Akron in 1985 with a B.S in Industrial Management.

After ROTC and graduating from college, Lugenbeal joined the US Army. He was assigned Company Commander of the 192nd Quartermaster Co and later became the Company Commander of the 319th Quartermaster Battalion. He was finally attached to the 475th Quartermaster Battalion until his retirement from active duty. Michael served as part of the Army Reserves until he retired as a Lt. Colonel in 2011.

After returning to Ohio from active duty, he joined the Akron Police Department in1989 and served as a Sgt. until his retirement. A military service was held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on Wednesday May 24, 2017. In lieu of flowers, please send checks to Akron Police Community Relations. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Terry.

He is survived by his children, Anthony, Nicole and Amanda, and his sister Bonnie (Larry) Knox, of Wooster; many nieces and nephews, and long time friend Mary Furin, of Akron. Michael will be sadly missed by his family, but is now at peace. He lived small and loved big.
