Colleen Kovalchik, passed away April 17, 2017 after a long battle with multiple health issues. Colleen was born in Akron, Ohio on April 1, 1951 to the late John and Shirley Kovalchik.

She is survived by loving sisters: Kim Pinney, and Christine Schmidt (Jim), nephews and niece: John Van Buskirk (Beanie), Anthony Schmidt (Sophie), and Sara Schmidt, great nephews: Shawn, Logan, and Mason, as well as loving aunts: Dortha Kovalchik and Henrya Hollin. Colleen is also survived by many cousins and friends.

Colleen had a great sense of humor inherited from her parents. A wonderful storyteller able to incite laughter in all.
She lived by her parent’s advice to "live life to the fullest, you only pass this way once.” An adventurous soul, she loved traveling to many different places, including her favorites: Hawaii and Hilton Head. She loved dining with friends and family, and constantly sought out new experiences. Able to strike up a conversation with anyone, the word stranger did not exist to Colleen. Her personable nature made a positive impact on many people in her life through genuine kindness and generosity. Close relationships with her nieces, nephews and great nephews brought her great joy. She was also close to many of her cousins throughout her life, treating them like siblings.
She wanted to thank her family, friends and the many medical professionals that helped and comforted her through her long struggle.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 1-3 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Road, Akron, where the memorial service will begin at 3:00 pm with Chaplain Josephine (Joey) DeBarr officiating.
