She was born on June 19, 1939 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of the late Dr. Charles L. and Irene Strosnider Naylor.
Joann was a 1957 graduate of Ravenna High School and also a graduate of KSU attaining a Bachelors Degree in Education. She was a teacher at Warren G. Harding High School in Warren, worked for the East Ohio Gas Company, was assistant manager at JoAnn Fabrics at Summit Mall, and worked for her husband's company- Housley Roofing and Spouting. Joann loved to sew, take care of her dogs, and her main joy in life was being a devoted mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband, Emmett J. Housley, Sr., whom she married on March 5, 1963; her two daughters, Corinne (companion Larry Mullins) Housley and Laura J. (Art) Sherman; grandchildren, Jeffrey Lavenau, Leanna, AJ, and Lydia Sherman; two sisters-in-law, Joan Anderson and Miyako Naylor; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Other than her parents, Joann was preceded in death by her son, Emmett J. "EJ" Housley, Jr.; her grandchildren, Annette and Amanda Sherman, and Billy Zaleski; her brother, Gene Naylor; brother-in-law, George Anderson; her nephew, John Anderson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, where family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service.
Burial will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Akron.
