Janet E. McGuinness, (nee Smith), age 60 of New Philadelphia, formerly of Akron, Ohio, passed on to her heavenly home on Monday, January 16, 2017 at 1:15 AM at the Hospice Care Center in Copley.

She was born in Akron on March 16, 1956, the daughter of Sally Carey Smith-Wood of Cuyahoga Falls and the late Phillip Smith.

Janet was a homemaker and enjoyed her family, cooking, gardening, animals, and the outdoors.

Other than her mother, Janet is survived by her children, John-David Filing, Brant (Lisa) Bowling, Sonja Bowling, Katie Jacot, and Daniel Jacot; her 12 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; her siblings, Phillip (Cathy) Smith, Sharon (Rick) Hardy, Daniel (Angie) Smith, and Thomas (Margaret) Smith. She is also survived by her best friend, Cathy Ross.

Other than her father, Janet was preceded in death by her step-father, Clifford Wood; and her dog, Jack.

There will not be any calling hours or services and all arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Newcomer Funeral Home, Akron.
