DeForest Phifer "Scooby"

DeForest Phifer, "Scooby" 43, passed away after a brief illness on September 27, 2016. DeForest was born December 22, 1972 in Akron, OH to Margaret Phifer. He attended Akron Public Schools where he excelled academically and in sports. In fact, he was a true Dallas Cowboys fan. He furthered his career in the medical field, graduating September 24, 1999 with his nursing degree. He had his own business, DP3 Merchandising for many years. He was more recently employed with Gabriel Brothers from 2011-2013. He had a contagious spirit and brought life to all he was around. He was a gentle soul, helping many he encountered in need. He loved his family dearly.

He was preceded in death by his loving grandmother, Sarah M. Amos; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. DeForest is survived by children, who were his life, DeForest Phifer II (Siobhan), Daze' Phifer and Debriel Cargill, all of Akron; devoted mother whom he adored, Margaret Phifer Hardaway; loving brothers, Dennis Amos and Milton Hardaway Jr; his only loving sister whom he affectionately called "Pooh", Minister Octavia Hardaway, all of Akron; nieces, Da'Liyah Morrow, Mariah Amos and Milliona Hardaway, of Akron; his only nephew, Major C. Hardaway of Akron; aunt, Grace Hill; uncles, Arthur G. Amos of Columbus, MS. and Terry Amos of Akron; special aunts, Leana Amos and Elizabeth Lake; as well as Carrie and Alice Amos; special friends, Trina Grant, Toya Joseph and Andre Border; special cousin, Purnell Lake; special little brothers, Noah Hargrove and Cervontae Carlton; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Family will receive friends on Friday October 7, 2016 from 12-2pm at Newcomer Funeral Home 131 N. Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44305. Interment Glendale Cemetery.
