1928 - 2016

Weyandt H. Dettis, 88, of Akron, passed away suddenly July 10, 2016.

Weyandt was born on January 4, 1928 and came to Akron in 1975 after closing his own pharmacy in Trafford, PA. He was hired by the Acme grocery company and had worked at the East Avenue store (Acme 18) until he retired in September 2012. Over the years, he made many friends. He grew up in the pharmacy business at his father's pharmacy which was opened in 1898. Weyandt went to work as soon as he could push a broom or dust shelves. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh College of Pharmacy in 1951, worked as a drug representative for the Parke Davis Drug Company for two years, and came home to his father's pharmacy when his father passed away. Pharmacy and his customers were his passion. He was a member of The Chapel in Akron, and a long time member of the Prime Time ABF.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor Charles Dettis and Mary Josephine Dettis; brothers, Charles and Jack; and his first wife, Thelma.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 25 years, Mary Ann; son, Weyandt V. (Verba); stepsons, Eric Klein and Michael (Stephanie) Fleser; one grandson, four granddaughters, one great granddaughter, and lifelong best friends, Melvin and Betty Buchin.
